Name your own price in Orlando

Another great piece of advice from the guys at examiner.com this time about how to stay in Orlando for as cheap as possible. We all like going to Orlando every now and then - well, the kids do at least - but sometimes you feel like you're being taken for a ride before you even get to the parks.

Elana Nichols explains how to beat the system. Click here for the full article

When it comes to traveling to Orlando, room and board can really make those travel plans expensive. As a Florida resident, I love to spend weekends in Orlando. “Whoa, that could get expensive!” you say. You’re right. How do I do it? I use my favorite price weapon. I use Priceline!
It is amazing how much money you can save using Priceline. For example, my husband and I stayed in the Peabody, one of the few five star hotels in Orlando, for a mere $80.00 after tax. This is astounding because the Peabody can average $170.00 per night.
With Priceline Name Your Own Price deals you don’t have to worry about getting stuck with a grimy hotel in a poor area. You name the area and the star level that you want. On Priceline, a three star is very nice (ex: Hilton).
I will walk you through the process in the following easy steps:
1. Go to Priceline then click on “Name Your Own Price.”
2. Put in the city and state (you can even put in a theme park or landmark).
3. Choose the star level you would like- A safe bet for Priceline Hotels in the Orlando area is going for a three-star or better. Two stars are nice as well, just fewer amenities. It is better to start at a high star level and go lower. You get more bids for the same area this way.
4. Choose the area of town you want to stay in-a map will display allowing you to see where the area is in relation to your theme parks and attractions.
5. Name your price - don’t be afraid to go low. We stay at the Hilton regularly for a fraction of the regular rate. If you put in a price that is too low, a message will display saying that you have little to no chance of getting that price. If you see that message, increase the price one dollar at a time until it disappears.
6. You’re all done! If you didn’t get the price you named, you can also select other surrounding areas or star levels to bid again. (Doing this, we often get three star hotels for $50.00)

Wow, great advice Elana! Next time we're off, I know where I am going first...
